Japanese Encephalitis
Protection from encephalitis.
Recommended in the case of longer stays (more than 1 month) outside urban areas in areas where the illness exists. Look closer on the map here. The illness is transferred via mosquitos and mosquito repellent is therefore recommended.
Japanese encephalitis is a serious illness where close to half of all infected die. Luckily the illness is very rare.
A child can be vaccinated once it is 1 year old. Before the child turns 1 it should be protected from mosquito bites.
The vaccination is given as a shot that is repeated after 1 to 2 weeks. Hereafter, the child is protected for 1 year.
